3 Important Instagram Updates for 2019: Things You Should Know

It’s officially 2019, and Instagram does not seem to slow down in the race to become the world’s favorite social media platform. There are a staggering 1 billion monthly users on Instagram, over 60% of which log in daily. With the ever-growing usage of the platform, it’s no wonder that Instagram’s developers are trying to raise the standards and make their product even better. In this blog post, we’ll tell you all about the three most important updates that you can expect to see throughout 2019 (and don’t worry, the algorithm stays the same!).

Video Post Scheduling

It’s a well-known fact that Instagram previously changed the API to allow third-party apps access to your posts and give you the chance to schedule them, so you can keep your consistency and activity on the platform even if you can’t physically log in and post at a particular time. Not only does this make posting consistency a lot easier and convenient, but it also helps you attract more followers and stay on top of the game.

Around January, Instagram secretly opened its API to now allow these third-party apps to schedule video posts as well, which means you can now queue more content and keep your feed interesting for your followers with both picture and video posts.

Sharing Feed Posts on Multiple Linked Accounts

Instagram allows users to have a personal and a business account or multiple accounts of each kind. In this case, sometimes you’d want to post the same picture on multiple accounts. Up until now, you had to log in to each account separately and upload from each one. Not anymore! Now you can upload the same photo on any of your linked accounts in one go. Soon, it will become easier for business owners to publish their products on various accounts (for example in cases of a business running sister companies) or if you have a personal photo that you still would like to share with your followers on your business account.

Alt Text for Picture Posts

Users can now add their alt texts to picture posts. This option can help you with SEO - you can use keywords in your picture posts’ alt text, so now people can find your photos on search engines like Google, as well. In terms of growing your fanbase on Instagram, this means that now people who don’t use the platform can search for your content outside of it and find it; thus you can reach a much bigger audience by utilizing this option regularly.

Another great thing about this option? It makes Instagram accessible for the disabled. It allows the visually impaired to enjoy your content as well because you can describe what the picture contains in your alt text and with the right apps, visually impaired people can hear your photo through these descriptions.

Other New Features Instagram Started Introducing in 2019

Instagram has also decided to change the way the user profiles look and feel. which have already started implementation, will now focus more on the users themselves, and their content, rather than on follower counts. One of the most noticeable changes to profiles is probably the “close friends” feature, that shows you your most interacted with users on the platform as well as the option to view “mutual” followers you might have with other users.

Another great feature Instagram has already improved for 2019 is the stickers. Not only have they improved the “Questions” sticker, but they have also added a countdown sticker. Both of these improvements can drastically change the way we interact on stories and live sessions on the platform for the better!

Other Things You Can Do to Affect Your Instagram Growth

  • Use Instagram stories and highlights: Not only has this feature been directly affected by the recent updates on the platform, but it is also extremely fun and easy to use and will always attract new followers to your Instagram account because everyone can see them!
  • Buy real Instagram likes: Since the algorithm mainly focuses on engagement rates rather than following numbers, you might want to consider “tricking” it into believing that your content is getting more engagement than it is. This marketing strategy is very common, and you can use it to your benefit. You can also buy Instagram followers to make it look more natural and proportionate.
  • Optimize your Instagram account with SEO techniques: like most other platforms on the Internet, Instagram has its own search engine that allows users to look for specific content they wish to view. If you’re unfamiliar with SEO, we definitely recommend reading about it in-depth because it can drastically change the exposure levels your content is getting.
